ABOUT VIRASAT
Rajasthani Folk Dance & Puppet Show
Virasat is a Hindi word which means “The Legacy”. The legacy which all the artists that are performing on the show received from Mrs. Vijay Laxmi Ameta who is an awardee of Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Akademy, Jodhpur (She has been awarded in the field of folk dances, 2023). Mrs. Ameta is an international folk dancer, choreographer, and puppeteer. She has been working on Rajasthani folk art for more than 35 years and performed in more than 30 countries across the globe.
Virasat is a Rajasthani folk dance show in Udaipur which has been working on pure and authentic folk music, folk songs, folk dances, and puppetry of Rajasthan.
The aim of Virasat is to preserve, protect, spread and keep alive the real art and authenticity of Rajasthani folk dances, folk music, folk songs and puppetry.
Virasat also works on villagers/ tribal areas to find out the talent and to provide stage to talented villagers so as to ,different custom of folk art can be preserved and shown to the public at large.
Virasat also trying to help out those people , kids, old age person, special child etc. who are not financially sound and cannot fulfil their basic need of everyday.
INTRODUCTION OF
PUPPETRY (KATHPUTLI) SHOW
India has a rich and ancient tradition of string puppets. Puppets with jointed limbs controlled by strings allow far greater flexibility and are therefore, the most articulate of the puppets. Rajasthan, Orissa, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are some of the regions where this form of puppetry has flourished. The traditional puppets of Rajasthan are known as “Kathputli”. Carved from a single piece of wood, these puppets are like large dolls that are colorfully dressed.

an important part, which are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also narrate stories in a
unique and captivating way. Here are ten folk dances from Rajasthan you should know
about. (IN ONE HOUR SHOW A MAX. OF 4-5 FOLK DANCES SHALL BE PERFORMED
BY ARTISTS AT THE DISCRETION OF MANAGEMENT.)
Craft Training
we provide training to traditional artisans, in developed technology for improving their crafts like paper craft, puppets, bamboo crafts, rangoli, beadwork, makram, clay(pottery), paper-mache and pad painting. We also provide training of all these forms to the school children, college graduates, teachers from all over the nation, Indian visitors and foreign visitors.
